Periodontology

Periodontal diseases are inflammatory ones that affect gums and other tissues supporting teeth. These diseases can be treated easily and successfully when diagnosed in their early stage (Gingivitis). It is usually caused due to poor oral hygiene, and it is treated quickly with professional scaling or regular good oral hygiene at home. When not treated and disregarded by oral hygiene, it results in the destruction of the bone in the mouth, and this disease is called “Periodontitis”. While there is no bone loss in Gingivitis patients, the lost bone tissue cannot be recovered in Periodontitis patients. Treatment methods differ depending on the type and severity of the disease. Also, providing gingival aesthetics to patients with gummy smiles is Periodontology’s field.

What are the symptoms of periodontal disease?

  • Bleeding gums during brushing teeth
  • Red, swollen and tender gums
  • The gums which can be easily separated from the teeth
  • Inflammatory discharge between teeth and gums
  • The teeth that are dangling or gradually becoming distant from each other (occurrence of gaps between teeth or enlargement in existing gaps)
  • Change in the relationship between upper and lower teeth during biting
  • Persistent bad breath

Gingival Aesthetics:

They are the processes in which the visible gingiva is shaped symmetrically for aesthetic purposes by taking into consideration the appearance of the amount of gingiva, laugh lines, and size of teeth when the patient laughs. It is a dental treatment application known as Pink Aesthetics. Pink aesthetic is usually applied with lasers in a single session without bleeding and stitching or by shaping gingival, thus gummy smile is reduced or the existing asymmetry in gingiva is eliminated.
